Who likes short shorts? .... Not me.

What is it about spring that brings out shorts season? I much rather wearing skirts or lovely dresses.
It's not even that I prefer them, it's.. this is a little embarrassing but.. I'm afraid of shorts.

There I said it.

Shorts completely puzzle me. My childhood memories tell me that back then shorts belonged to summertime, were available in bright neon colours or denim and even then I disliked them. I also dislike showing my legs in them (I'm short I feel they do me no favours!!). And what to you wear with them?? What tops/shoes etc?

However, in the last few years shorts have become ''cool'', a must-have really. Which I em, don't have. I feel like lately every magazine I open features leather shorts as THE item for spring/summer '11. I look at these magazines and these pictures below and I think 'Hmm they do look quite good'..

There's no denying it. They seem to make an outfit effortlessly amazing.

Maybe I could go for a leather skirt instead?!

Ruffles

I like ruffles but I always think they look a little too girly on me... what can I say I'm a girly looking girl already (my powers of description fail I know.. But let's say I'm not edgy looking okay?).

Do I really need ruffles to add to the girlyness? Probably not. So I generally avoid them.

However I couldn't leave this top behind when browsing in H&M (24.95 euros) a few weeks ago. The ruffles are just gorgeous! I can't tell you how many compliments I have recieved about this top, it seems everyone likes ruffles haha!

Essence Lash Mania saves the day!

After my unpleasant experience with Maybelline's The Falsies Black drama I was all out of mascara. Faced with the prospect of NO MASCARA (eek!) I quickly sprinted down to the local shopping centre to find something to tide me over.

The chemist was SHUT. No Rimmel fix then.

I hit Dunnes in desperation, the Rimmel stand was destroyed. However the Essence stand was perfectly untouched (messy testers/children seem to be snobs too haha) so I rushed in that direction and quickly picked up a tube of Essence lash mania ultra volume mascara.

This mascara was only supposed to be a quick fix but now I absolutely LOVE it :) It separates and defines lashes really well. It's not very thickening or densifying but that doesn't really bother me, I still use it for day and night time and it does the job very well.

Did I mention it's only 2.49 euros...? That's me sold! :)

Review: 17 Mirror Shine Lipstick in Beehive

When I was browsing around the 17 counter in Boots I had a dilemma. I couldn't decide between  this 17 mirror shine lipstick in Flirtini or another interesting shade called Beehive.

I went with the former but after reading the forums on the fabulous http://www.beaut.ie/ where people were raving about this colour I decided I must go back and purchase Beehive. As you do. (I'm a beaut.ie addict, anything they recommend I will happily try out haha)

I'm not exactly sure of the price but it was around a fiver I think.. will update later with exact price! :)

The colour is gorgeous, in the bullet it's exactly the pinky toned nude you see in this pic.

On the lips
It leaves your lips moisturised and glossy without being sticky and I think the colour is perfect for a neutral daytime look or even to pair with smoky eyes at night.
One of my new staple lip products I think! :)

The day the carnival came to town

I love carnivals!
Yesterday a carnival came to my college campus for RAG week and I was so happy! (Yes, I am a child still).
To me carnivals mean 2 things:
1) The Waltzers.
2) Candyfloss

Yes it's true candyfloss sticks to your face. It'll make a mess out of your hair if it's windy. It will ruin your teeth.
And yet, I love it.

Who else loves candyfloss?

I think this is Katy Perry.. if not, it's someone who looks really like her..

Ryan Reynolds
Enough said.

Pikachu

This is not an ad for candyfloss, although it's really beginning to look like one!

If only....

Bits and bobs..

News, random stuff and things that have amused or interested me this week!
  • I found the dress for my ball! :) I did have an idea of what I was looking for (a deep emerald green dress) but I just fell in love with this one. Also, it's definitely something I'll wear again. I just need to get shoes to go with it and I'm looking for something a little bit different so it could take a while. I'll post a photo of the whole outfit after the ball!
  • It's RAG (Raise and Give) week in my college this week coming, hence I'm super busy this weekend trying to get all my college work out of the way! Haha! In all seriousness though, it's a great way to have fun and raise money for some really worthwhile charities. It's been great fun the last two years so I'm really looking forward to it!
  • A blog that I really enjoy reading is Girl Without a Plan's http://tuesdaynightblog.wordpress.com/ If you haven't seen it before please check it out, it's well worth the read. Especially this post http://tuesdaynightblog.wordpress.com/2011/02/08/dear-world-thank-you-more-please/ which I found particularly inspiring!
  • A song I've been really enjoying this week is Belle and Sebastian's 'I want the world to stop'. I don't love every song by this band (I'm not cool enough for that, I prefer ridiculously bad 70's/80's music haha) but I really liked this one.
  • One of my friends mentioned Irish shoe designer Nina Divito and was shocked and appalled when she learned that I didn't have a clue who she was (I love my shoes, me) and rightly so!! I promptly googled her and her creations look amazing! Have a look for yourself here: http://www.rte.ie/fashion/2010/0203/diviton.html ( I particularly love the one with the rose) and check out her website here: http://ninadivito.com/news/
  • After all this recession doom and gloom, I personally found the last few weeks even more depressing being continually bombarded with election news and political promises, posters everywhere (Even in my house.. ahem) and watching our politicians taking skelps (official term there) out of each other on the tv. However this video gave me a good laugh in the midst of it all!
  • Sunshine! I saw sun this week for the first time in a very long time! And... it was WARM! Not the usual it's-sunny-but-still-the-wind-would-freeze-you-to-death weather we usually see here in Ireland. BRING ON THE SUMMER, I SAY!

Nom!! Because we all know Summer = Ice cream :)
